She was the little girl of Mary Gray Staples Harvey and Ralph Churchill Harvey. Anne was imposing in a roaring middle-class family. Nana was her maiden grandaunt who lived with the Harveys during Annes adolescence. Anne had paranoid feelings that her parents may throw out her, but always anchor encouragement and comfort from her big aunt.
When Sexton was still in elementary school she suffered the traumatizing issue of her aunts moral breakdown and hospitalization insurance due to her condition of creation bipolar, or being a manic depressant.
